Room 223, Monday Morning
Natalie had taken care of Ada last night. It was only fair, both for Sam having looked after her most of the previous dayy, and for how upset he'd been over having upset the girl – even if that was something natalie privately found an overreaction on both their parts. She could live with a night with the girl, all the same.
And then Lilith had shown up in the evening, complaining about the lack of reading material (not related to wars in France, anyway) in her father's room. Natalie had given her a thick novel far above a 10-year-old's reading level, and she had been sated, until bedtime. It had been a struggle, fitting all three of them in one bed, and Natalie had spent a large part of the night awake, one girl cuddled up against one side, one on the other. Both were early risers, though, and she was glad for that.
Breakfast would be on the itinerary soon, but for now, things were quiet. Ada was colouring in a volume of manga Natalie didn't particularly like, while humming songs Natalie didn't recognize, though Lilith seemed to. The older girl was reading again, though occasionally she looked up, as if simply to observe yet another of her fake sisters.
And Natalie was watching them both, pretending to read a magazine.

"Oh," she said, once she opened the door and saw Sam there, "hey."

Fair warning.

He hadn't prepared for that.
"...kay. I just thought I'd come check on Ada. See if she still hates me or anything."
no subject
... And she'd just gotten distracted by an icon. She wasn't even going to try explaining that to him. She shook her head instead. "She doesn't. She never hated you."
As if on cue, Ada's voice sounded from further in the room. "Is that Daddy?"

Like put a cap on it for no good reason.
"And that's good to hear. I was worried."
And he wouldn't call it an overreaction for a few reasons but those were details better left unsaid for now.

Anyway, Ada showed up behind her just then, and clung to her leg, peeking at Sam. "Hi Daddyyy!"

Natalie knew without looking that Lilith was probably rolling her eyes at that.

Her mom was famous, see.
... And Lilith's parents were nobodies. Or something. What was a 'Hegemon', anyway?

Natalie sighed and shook her head. This potential future just sounded weird.

"Doing good things leading to good things coming to you," Natalie replied succinctly. She looked up at Sam again. "Would you like to come in?"

Lilith just barely glanced up from her book at the movement.

So, he just...stood there, looking out of place. Typical situation for Sam, really.

Guess where he'd seen that one before!
"Hello," she said. The 'and who are you?' was implied.
no subject
Uh. What was he supposed to say right now?
" -- neighbor."
Good show, Sam!
no subject
Now it was a rather disinterested 'are you kidding me?'
"Dad said you're Mom's boyfriend."

He was being judged, and Lilith had high standards. "No, just an omission," she said.
no subject
Sam shook his head and wondered why he was sniping (somewhat) at a kid. That was dumb.
"I'll try not to omit anything from now on."

Lilith just snorted quietly and went back to reading. He was dismissed, as far as she was concerned.
Ada just hummed against his neck. Something about mechanical bulls.
