Another week, another hotel room.

Envy was still in LA, but since she was technically no longer there on business with the production company that had invited her over in the first place, they were also no longer paying for her stay. So she'd switched to a hotel she was more comfortable paying for herself. It was still fancy, just not as fancy.

And the week so far had been full of meetings, the same as last week. Except today. Today was... a desert. Envy had expected it, of course, but it still felt somehow striking considering the way some of the other days these past few weeks had gone. She had a suspicious text from Winifred Hailey, asking her to 'hang out or whatever' on Saturday, but that was it. That was all the communication she'd received today.

She was free.

And she wasn't sure she could even remember the last day she'd had that was this quiet.

She wasn't sure what to do with herself.

Envy was still in Los Angeles.

After several annoying postponements, she'd finally met Winifred Hailey earlier today. Over brunch, because apparently it was the LA way. And unlike what the producer had claimed - enthusiastically, and several times over - it didn't seem like Ms. Hailey was a fan of Envy's. In fact, it didn't seem like she was aware of Envy and her career at all. And she wasn't very gracious about it, either, judging by how she played her ignorance off by explaining she was hugely into, like, Latvian folk metal right now, with her tone suggesting that was something Envy should've been impressed by since it was so very unique of her. Or something.

It was exhausting.

The director, who Envy had met up with on Friday, did actually seem to be a fan, though. And gong back to the Demonhead days, no less. So... Win some, lose some, eh? And Envy's LA days were far from over. Several important people had caught wind that she was in town (some by her team's careful manipulation of events, some on their own through the grapevine) and so she had more meetings on various things set up all along next week, too. Guess Brazil would just have to wait.

Getting back to her hotel room, she got the room service menu and placed an order for pretty much the most expensive things on there. Someone else was paying for all this. Might as well make the most of it.

Envy was in Los Angeles. She'd been invited over by a producer who was interested in having her contribute a song for a movie that was currently knee-deep in pre-production. Winifred Hailey, former teen star turned into twenty-something starlet, was attached to play the lead. And according to the producer, both Ms. Hailey as well as the film's director were quote-unquote 'huge Envy fans'. Envy wasn't sure she bought it. But, it was a free trip to LA and she figured a brief change of scenery could do her good. She was supposed be starting work on a new album but it wasn't going very smoothly yet.

So Envy was in Los Angeles.

... And it had taken her less than two days to remember she didn't really enjoy Los Angeles. It was crowded and noisy, yet somehow not the same kind of crowded and noisy that she actually liked, the way things were in New York and, to a slightly lesser extent, in Montreal and Toronto. After some preliminary meetings, she'd pretty much decided she also didn't like the movie business. Or at least she didn't like producers.

Still, she hadn't given up on the deal yet. There were still more people to meet later on this trip, Hailey and the director included. But she was glad to be out of the conference rooms and away from sleazy-feeling executives. She had room to breathe for the rest of the day, and right now, she was doing what she felt would unwind her best: hitting as many used record stores as she could. As obscure as possible.

While wearing shades and a baseball cap, complete with her bleached waves pulled back into a ponytail sticking out from the back. It was the thing to wear when you were kind of a star wanting to blend in.
